Beyond all-inclusive hospitality at Velas Resorts is inspired by the vision of our President, Eduardo Vela Ruiz. From the beginning, his goal was to create an all-inclusive resort destination with no limits. In 1989, he set out to revolutionize the resort experience in Mexico with the opening of Velas Vallarta, followed by Grand Velas Riviera Nayarit in 2002, which soon earned the prestigious Five Diamond Award from the American Automobile Association (AAA). His eco-friendly initiatives in construction and green housing continually place him among the most influential developers and entrepreneurs in Mexico.

In the realm of tourism in Mexico, Grand Velas Riviera Nayarit is one of the most internationally-awarded resorts. In 2002, Grupo Velas - under the leadership of Eduardo Vela - opened the property's doors, and it soon received the Five Diamond Award from the American Automobile Association (AAA). Today, just 0.4% of the more than 27,000 properties evaluated by the AAA receive this distinction. Velas Resorts also includes Grand Velas Los Cabos (the group's latest property, which opened in 2016), Grand Velas Riviera Maya (2008), Casa Velas (2005) and Velas Vallarta (1989) in Puerto Vallarta.

In 1977, at the age of 28, Eduardo Vela began his work in construction and real estate developments, after a successful career as a trial attorney. That same year, he founded several companies that formed part of his investment base, which later initiated his tourism projects in 1989, when he opened Velas Vallarta.
Construcciones Aryve, S.A. de CV, located in Tampico, Tamaulipas - Eduardo Vela's home city and state - was founded in 1993 and is now part of Grupo Velas, which also encompasses other companies located in Tampico, such as Grupo Desarrollo Tamaulipas (GDT), Invelmex, Tancol Concrete, Vallatam Transport, Andvel and Velas 10 restaurant.
Eduardo Vela Ruiz' companies are dedicated to the construction of high quality housing and the development of "green" housing by the company Vgreen in Tamaulipas, Mexico. For his work and leadership in Mexican tourism and real estate development, Eduardo Vela was named "Entrepreneur of the Year" by then President Felipe Calderón Hinojosa.
